From April 21 to 23, 2017, the delegation of the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) held an Official Visit to Japan with the purpose of providing updated information to shipping companies in regard to the functioning of the expanded Panama Canal, inaugurated in June of 2016.
The delegation was headed by Jorge L. Quijano, Administrator of the Panama Canal, and accompanied by Mr. Oscar E. Bazan, Executive Vice-President, Planning and Business Development and Ms. Silvia de Marucci, Manager, Marketing and Forecasting.
During the visit, the delegation held working meetings with various institutions, such as the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, the Japan Shipowers’ Association (JSA), as well as major companies from shipping and energy sectors in Japan. The delegation exchanged opinions about the services of the expanded Canal and the market perspectives in the different segments of cargo that are operated by the ACP.
In addition, Administrator Quijano gave a detailed explanation about the measures taken by the ACP to improve the fendering system installed in the walls of the new locks. Also he informed that the ACP will develop different business projects in the area of the Canal in near future, which attracted the interests of Japanese shipping companies.
The delegation was also accompanied by H.E. Ritter N. Díaz, Ambassador of Panama and Consul General of Panama in Tokyo.
