From June 11 to 14, 2017, the Member of Panamanian Parlament, Mr. Jose Luis Varela, President of the Panamanian Chapter of the Panama-Japan Inter-Parliamentary League, held an official visit to Japan in company with Mr. Ivan Picota, Member of the Revolutionary Democratic Party and also Member of the Inter-Parliamentary League in mention.
This visit took place in response to the invitation from the Japanese Parliament, with the assistance of the Embassy of Panama in Japan, in order to strengthen the politic relationship between the National Assembly and Japanese Parliament.
Mr. Varela and Mr. Picota started their schedule with a visit to the Yasukuni Shrine, which dedicates to the memory of the soldiers who passed away during the Japan War.
President of the House of Representatives, concluding with a meeting dinner invited from the Members of the Japan Chapter of the Panama-Japan Inter-Parliamentary League, headed by President, Mr. Seishiro Eto.
The second day began with a breakfast meeting organized by Mr. Natsuo Yamaguchi, President of Komei Party, allied with the Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s government. In addition, the visiting politicians had the opportunity to observe the technology of civil security in the company NEC.
Afterwards, they had a tour of the different sites of the Parliament, closing the day with a cocktail party offered by H.E. Ritter N. Diaz, Ambassador of Panama to Japan, which accounted for the participation of various politicians, directors of the Ministry of Foreign Affaires of Japan, and representatives from the private sectors.
The official visit concluded with a visit to the old Japanese capital city of Kyoto, organized by the International Affaires Division of the Parliament, where the Panamanian politicians could enjoy important aspects of Japanese history and culture.
