On October 24th, 2016, the Embassy of Panama in Japan participated in the Latin American Bazaar 2016, which was organized by the Japan-Latin American and the Caribbean Ladies Association. The event took place at the Tokyo Prince Hotel.
The annually held Latin American Bazaar counts on the participation of Embassies of the Latin America and the Caribbean countries accredited in Japan, which exhibit products and traditional dishes. Funds raised during this event are donated to welfare organizations that help underprivileged children in Latin America and the Caribbean region.
The Embassy of Panama exhibited molas, chungas, chaquiras and other types of handicrafts, which strongly attracted the attention of attendants.
The Panamanian diplomatic mission also offered traditional dishes such as “biztec picado y arroz con maíz” (chopped beef steak and corn rice), “ensalada de papas con remolacha” (potato and beat salad), “plátano en tentación”(syrupped bananas), and a traditional dessert so called “mamallena” (bread-pudding) , as well as a traditional drink known as “ron ponche” (eggnog made with rum) .
Furthermore, the Embassy offered entertainments of Panamanian traditional dance, performed by Eng. Samuel Guevara, Chief of SEGUMAR Tokyo, and his wife, Mrs. Adriana Nuñéz, as well as a concert by a Panamanian singer, Roberto The Specialist.
The event counted on the distinguished participation of Her Imperial Highness Princess Hitachi, who was delighted by the colorful Panamanian molas.
