On July 1, 2017, the Embassy of Panama in Japan, in collaboration with the prestigious cooking school Hattori Nutrition College, carried out a tasting of Panamanian cuisine.
In this occasion, the presentation included Ceviche, Panamanian chicken soup (Sancocho), Shredded Beef (Ropa vieja), Rice and Panamanian bread pudding (Mamallena).
The activity started with the opening remarks of H.E. Ritter N. Díaz, Ambassador of Panama in Japan, where he conveyed his gratitude for the opportunity to introduce Panamanian cuisine to the students of Hattori Nutrition College. He also pointed out that Panamanian and Japanese people rice as a main component of their daily diet.
In addition, Mrs. Ayana Hatada Diaz, Wife of Ambassador, delivered a presentation about Panama, focussing on history and culture, including the variety of Panamanian gastronomy. 。
The explanation and preparation of Panama dishes was carried out by Mrs. Yudelka Salvador, Panamanian-Dominican who provides catering service to Latin and Panamanian people in Japan. Mrs. Yudelka made a preparation together with the famous Japanese Chef, Mr. Fumihiko Ohno.
After the explanation by Mrs. Yudelka, the students of Hattori School worked diligently to prepare Panamanian food in a friendly asmosphere. During the tasting session, the students enjoyed the flavour of the Panamanian cuisine.
