On October 23, the Embassy of Panama in Japan, in collaboration with the Embassy of Cuba in Japan, organized a golf tournament and familiarization tour for the Diplomatic Corps accredited in Japan which was held at 31 Country Club located in the Prefecture of Ibaraki, 60 km northeast of Tokyo.
The event, which brought together more than 30 representatives of 12 diplomatic missions of America, Asia, Europe and Africa, was aimed at collecting donations for the scholarship fund for orphans of the City of Soma, who lost their parents during the earthquake and tsunami on March 11th, 2011.
Also, the event served to deepen diplomatic and personal ties between the embassies in Tokyo. Moreover, Diplomat beginners and their families had the opportunity to learn about golf during a basic lesson delivered by professional Japanese players.
At the event, various awards were presented to the winners of the tournament, including three bags of the highly valued Panama Geisha Coffee, donated by Mr. Yoshio Suzuki, Chairman of Saza Coffee and distributor of Panamanian Specialty Coffee in the Prefecture of Ibaraki.
The activity ended with a reception where Mr. Kiyoshi Kimura, President of the prestigious chain of restaurants Sushi Zanmai, and his staff, carried out a 200kg-tuna cutting demonstration, which was later served to the participants.
On behalf of the City of Soma, Mr. Koichi Yoshino, Director of Industries of the Municipal Government of the city received the donation, expressing his gratitude for the support of the Embassy of Panama and other participants of the Diplomatic Corps.
