Embassy and Consulate –General of Panama organize the Maritime Golf Tournament

On November 3rd, 2017, the Embassy of Panama and the Consulate General of Panama in Tokyo took place the Panama Maritime Golf Tournament in the occasion of the 114th Anniversary of the Independence Day and the 100th Anniversary of the Panama Ship Registry.

The event had approximately 200 participants, including 124 golf players from several maritime companies in Japan, Diplomatic Corp members, representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, members of Parliament and people associated with our Mission.

The activity began early morning with the Golf players’ registration, who enjoyed Panamanian coffee before their tee-off.

After the players came back from the golf course, the National Day ceremony started with the national anthems of Panama and Japan. H.E. Ritter N. Díaz, Ambassador of Panama to Japan, delivered the opening remarks, explaining about the economic progress of Panama, the fight against the corruption, and the evolution of the Panama Ship Registry.

Afterwards, H.E. Takahiro Nakamae, Ambassador and Director-General of Latin American and Caribbean Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, delivered a congratulatory speech, pointing out the good progress achieved between Panama and Japan during the 113 years of the excellent diplomatic relations. The protocolar ceremony ended with a toast by Mr. Kiyoshi Ejima, on behalf of the Panama-Japan Interparliamentary League, who expressed his best wishes for the health and prosperity of all Panamanian citizen.

Following the speeches, a 230kg tuna-cutting show was held by Mr. Kiyoshi Kimura, President of sushi restaurant chain Sushi Zanmai, and his staffs, who donated the tuna in the occasion of the 100 Anniversary of Panama Ship Registry. After the show, the participants enjoyed tasting the fresh sushi of the highest quality.

During the event, the Legend of the Latin American music in Japan, Mr. Antonio Koga, carried out live music, followed by the presentation of Panamanian traditional dance performed by the Folklore group of the Embassy of Panama in Japan. The event finished with the Panamanian music live performed by Latin American musicians.

This event was carried out with the sponsorship of various companies, such as: All Nippon Airways, Copa Airlines, The Santa Maria Hotel & Golf Resort, The Buenaventura Golf & Beach Resort, Mitsubishi Logistics, Hitachi, BMW Japan, as well as mayor hotels, resturants and other sport companies in Tokyo.

The winner of the Panama Maritime Golf Tournament received a round trip ticket to Panama, sponsored by All Nippon Airways, Copa Airlines and from private donors, such as 5 nights in two 5 stared hotels in Panama.

The venue was decorated with posters and banners of Panama. Also a Panamanian traditional costume called Pollera was exhibited in combination with a Japanese Kimono designed with various aspects of Panamanian culture, such as the Panama Canal, Mola, Panama’s national flower called Espítiru Santo, and Harpy eagle. During the event, the participants could appreciate the videos of tourism, the Panama Canal and the World Youth Day, enjoying the variety of Panamanian gastronomy.

In addition to the celebration of the National Day of Panama, this event contributed to promote the culture and tourism of our country, as well as to reinforce the relations with the maritime community in Japan in the context of the 100th Year of Panama Ship Registry.
