On June 25, 2017, the Embassy of Panama in Japan held the cultural event “Panama Day” at JICA Global Plaza.
The event “Panama Day” is held in June each year to promote Panamanian culture in collaboration with the Panama Japan Friendship Association and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). This year, we counted on the participant of 150 people.
The event started with the opening remarks of Mr. Makoto Misawa, President of the Panama Japan Friendship Association and the former Ambassador of Japan to Panama, followed by the presentation of H.E. Ritter N. Diaz, Ambassador of Panama to Japan, which focussed on history, economy, culture and tourism in Panama. The event also counted on the participation of Mr. Takashi Yasui, Director of Industrial Promotioin of Imabari city, who made reference to the celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the Sister-City Agreement between Panama City and Imabari City. Finally, Mr. Shiro Kobayashi, an expert on Canal issues, delivered a presentation about the performance of the Panama Canal a year after the expansion of the waterway.
The event concluded a the Panamanian dance show performed by the Folk Dance Group of the Embassy, as well as the music presentation given by the Panamanian singer, Robert the Specialist.
The participants also enjoyed the banners with the touristic spots of Panama as well as the photos of the expansion of the Panama Canal. The event ended with a tasting of the Panamanian cuisine, such as guandu beans rice, beet and potato salad, chicken stew and Panamanian bread pudding.
